Peru balsam essential oil has a history of being used in South America as a wound healing resin. Nowadays worldwide, it is mostly used as a perfume fixative and a flavouring. It is grown in El Salvador. No trees are cut down to produce the resin, rather the bark is cut and the tree produces a resin as a wound healer.
Aroma: Peru balsam essential oil has a lovely sweet, balsamic aroma, reminiscent of vanilla and benzoin.
Properties: Physically, Peru balsam is very useful for skin and wounds. It is also very useful for the respiratory system, bronchitis and coughs.
Emotionally Peru balsam is useful for stress reduction. Energetically it is a wonderful oil for opening the heart and increasing joy, relieving sorrow, and creating a sense of safety and warmth.
It is steamed distilled from the resin.
Blends with: floral oils, frankincense, elemi, spice oils.
Shelf life: It will keep for around 2-3 years if stored with lid tightly closed in a cool, dark area.
